The way the extruder works

Extrusion is the description for a process where plastic components are being produced in a continuous stream, for instance pipes, profiles, tubes etc.

The most important part of an extruder is the plasticising unit, consisting of a screw and the barrel surrounding the screw.
In this unit, the raw material, in shape of powder or granules, are force fed by the rotating screw.

The area between the threads of the screw is being reduced and thereby a comprimation of the material takes place, the pressure increases and due to friction heat and added heat through the heated barrel, the plastic is melted.

After being plasticised and homogenised in this process, the material is being pressed out of the barrel through a nozzle, which has the pattern of the desired profile.

Since the material at this stage is not stable in its shape, it has to be pulled by a special take off unit and fed into the cooling water bath. Finally the product is cut off automatically in desired lengths and fed to a separate packing unit.
